Youth and Age and Blame

What do you do when you are in danger of judgement...children lie and elders prevaricate.   By this I mean that children will blame, "Not Me", "Nothing" and let it go.  Adults will have a whole series of reasons why it wasn't them.

Running a BoardingHouse gives me a first hand look at the different ways that people adjust the reality to suit the moment.  I bake, cook cajun, have a Thai bent and enjoy a good pizza.  I will prepare these dishes, with the hope that I might get at least one serving of it and maybe, just maybe have a sandwich from the leavings tomorrow.  HAH!  Many is the time I have gone to fridge only to find the slightest crumb remaining of the chicken that was cooked the night before.

Now, I know it was probably not Denim Doll...she is petite, has glorious hair and wouldn't be caught eating more than a smidgen of something...the Cop - now she eats all the time and never gains an ounce - The Mouth prefers to go next door and cadge a meal, Missy can also eat a small horse and not gain anything.  The Gaffer and I on the other hand need to watch every ounce and even then we gain...Toothless is picky, if it is in the fridge it's his.

But you should hear the excuses...and I must admit that the only "fact" I have is that food is missing...so I have to go down the list..."Not Me", "What meatloaf?', "I ate out", "I didn't eat the cookies, I ate the cake!"
"What, you made chicken, where?"

There are few rules in the House...Don't slam the doors, Put the toilet seat down, Turn off the lights if you are not in the room, Don''t come in after 1:00am without letting me know or you may be met with a welcome you hadn't thought of.

Whenever one of these rules are sidestepped...the excuses are amazing.

Rain, Rain, Rain

Well, here we are, Toothless and I in the land of Rain, rain, rain.  I had always heard the phrase, you can never go home again, and I thought they were kidding...turns out they are right...you can go home, but you are a different person now than you were then...this is a good thing!

The trip was uneventful, snow, freezing rain, ice, sleet...fun just fun.

I checked in with The Gaffer the other day, the girls at the house are giving him grief and trying to let him know that the House Maven is gone and they really can do what they want.  He is to remind them that it is a BoardingHouse, the Maven will return and we can kick them out!  We would miss the rent, but not the idiocy.

Today is going to be spent finding another House to set up...already have two folks interested in sharing a house and having a good meal now and again.  I have to admit that I miss the plains and the open view, I don't miss the weird weather and the dust, but we will cope, Toothless and I.

Toothless wasn't too excited about the trip...he was not permitted to drive...ever driven with someone who likes to listen to weird music and talks all of the time?  Well, if he is only allowed to ride, he falls asleep.  Peace reigns in the vehicle.  I already miss the daily antics of Missy, The Mouth, The Cop, and Denim Doll, goes to say I really miss The Gaffer, but se la guer. Later Gator.

Well, fate happens

This time next week will find me on the West Coast...not that I had planned this or anything, but fate happens.  The Boardinghouse will be going on apace and I will still be the one to clean up the place, but The Gaffer will be the Major Domo.  This means that he will reign in a "house" full of women.  Toothless is coming with me for moral support.  Also, I need to establish another Boardinghouse out there.  Ah, the life of an entrepreneur!

Denim Doll thinks this is just great, as she will basically have The Gaffer all to herself, the others consider him a bit too cerebral for their tastes.  The Cop is a bit taken aback,  but she has had 20 years to train the Gaffer and so maybe it will work out ok...the rest, well....

I have been following a couple of other blogs over time and would like to point you all in their direction...
Lawdog and Fatale Abstraction both are quite good and keep me honest.

Hum, West Coast...the Land of Rabid Lefties and good wine.  I might just fit in.  I will be driving a van via the Northern route...if the weather sucks, I will blame my friends at the NWS who said it should be good driving mid week.  later.
