GIVE ME MY THANKSGIVING!!!

We all sat around the lunch table today and commented on the caloric rush we are expecting tomorrow when the Gaffer (he prefers this over the Geezer) said....I have one prayer to say tonight....GIVE ME MY THANKSGIVING WITHOUT CHRISTMAS CAROLS...thank you, Lord.

I agree.  Thanksgiving is about giving....Christmas has become about getting...one of the, if not the most meaningful Thanksgivings I have ever had in my life was when a Son-in-law decided that the Gaffer and I should come out their way to celebrate Thanksgiving...all of the rest of the clan came, but were not about on the actual Thursday...So Saturday the boys decided to go out to get Mexican food...had a blissful time over burritos, salsa, margaritas and family.

Now I come from a family that really is not too fond of me and we never really did anything worthwhile on Thanksgiving, so i tried to maintain a quiet distance from this one as it was  the gaffers family and not really mine...shy I was I guess...never happened before.  But it is the only Thanksgiving that I remember with any fondness at all.  Since then I have tried to go somewhere special for the Thanksgiving holidays...usually took some vacation time then and went somewhere that was new and I could meet new people and rest.  I find that that has been a rejuvenation time for me and the boardinghouse can get along without me for awhile...I can certainly get along without them for a bit.  Christmas is when I would take others folks shifts, day and/or night so they could be with family.  Works out pretty well, but I agree with the Gaffer....I DON'T WANT CHRISTMAS MUSIC WITH MY THANKSGIVING!!!

Airport Screening

Around here, the only meal we all regularly sit down to is "lunch".  This is anywhere from noonish to fourish.  This is when we all seem to be together in the same space and staring into the frig with hungry eyes.  This is also the time when we sit down, share the newspaper (yes, we read the newspaper...although these days it should be labeled the adpaper...oh well.) These days, there are two topics...unemployment for the youth and "touching junk".

At the risk of offending a whole bunch of people we chuffed a lot about the new TSA rules.  Please understand that we are all over 50, except for The Princess...she doesn't count in this discussion-(we told her so) as she has a body that used to be described as Va VA  VOOM! and we ARE NOT politically correct, so.  It's the rest of us that got flummed by all of the noise so as usual we decided to chat about it.

Now, our chats get fairly loud and boisterous...none of this quietude while we eat as I was raised with.  So we were discussing what we would do when next we board the aluminum tube.

Toothless, he used to be in service as a search and rescue...he said, go ahead touch my junk...but don't be too surprised if I return the favor...what is sauce for the goose and all that.  We all chimed in and let him know that they might have a hard time finding it...

Denim Doll...she is little, petite and tends to dress in a LOT of clothes...cold I guess...she decided that she would just do a strip there at the airport and if she got arrested it would be the most fun she had had since...

Missy, well she used to be a perimeter guard and she can hardly stand still for more than two minutes so she decided she would wear a body suit and put everything into her carry on...now her shape is tall, thin and energetic and she would be one to just tell everyone to get on with it and let her be.

The Irish Cop said...l e t   t h e m  t r y

The Mouth...now she is usually as dim as a Toc H lamp when it comes to her surroundings...she would rather run and ask questions later...her comment centered around her statement that if they used a full body scanner on her they would have to look a little bit (or a lot) lower for some her anatomy than on a young sprite.

The Geezer...well he didn't voice his opinion...strange that was - he always has one.

Me...I vote with Demin Doll...it may also be the LAST time they ever use those things.

Also, wasn't the last threat a computer PRINTER that was in the hold!!!!!!!

Knotted Knickers

Alright, we now have our collective knickers in respective knots!  How short IS the American mind?  You ARE aware that the "new" House of 'Representatives' are now thinking of 1) raising the retirement age, 2) doing away with the home mortgage interest deduction, 3) cancelling the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment...you ARE aware of this...right?

Man, you should have heard the chuffed conversation around the breakfast table.  1) all of us are under retirement age and we can't get a job that pays even minimum wage...around here that is $2.12 an hour...yeah, I know the national lower limit is what? $7.15 an hour...well, don't even get us started on that!  2)  This is the ONLY deduction available to us that is left...all of our kids have left and have (or don't) have kids and are trying to own a home...why do that if there is no hope of deducting something...do any of you remember that we used to be able (until Reagan's administration)- that was a Republican one, right?,  to deduct ANY interest we were charged...interest on credit cards...interest on cars,  interest on homes...try to do that now! 3) We would like for those who would cancel the SS COLA to live (as THEY are living now) on a SS check...oh, yeah we get to pay tax on that now which effectively deminishes that amount by 33%.

Puff! Well, we all went to a Veteran's ceremony today, held in the cold, with the wind blowing, the flags flying and the veterans standing at attention.  We shed a few silent tears for those of our collective families that are not with us anymore because of their dedication and we came back to discuss the question:  What does freedom mean to you?  We were all glad that many of our retail and government offices were closed this day...a bit inconvenient, but dang it...freedom isn't free...you have to keep vigilance and remember history or you are bound to repeat it.

Boardinghouse

I run a boardinghouse.  My guests are all above the age of 50.  We are powerful in our own rights and are not politically correct in others.  We do not mind our own business but are faithful to our right to have them...businesses we mean.  We do not discriminate accept amongst ourselves and we abide by the locked door rights.

We are two gentlemen and five women.  The gentlemen are, the Geezer and toothless.  The women are Denim Doll, Missy, The Irish Cop, The Mouth and at times The Princess...although she has a boyfriend right now and we don't see much of her...oh yes, me Le Conteur.

Some of us have grandchildren, while others don't admit to any.  Some won't admit to anything.  And that really is alright with the rest of us.

We each have access to the internet, cable, telephone and the refrigerators...there are three (refrigerators)...we share...oof, some people's tastes in food.

One of us just had a grandchild who released a "rap" video...Geezer suggested that he not quit his day job.

One of us has a child which is remodeling their home...quite an undertaking and we ruminated about it for awhile and decided that we are glad that is not us!

As the weather here is getting iffy, i.e. towards the chill factor...everyone  is asking me for more blankets and chili.  With the results of the last election, national and local...they had better settle in for a long run of chilly times.

We are all looking for work...quite a feat for those over 40, male or female.  We have not yet convinced employers that those of us who have a few grey hairs, not counting Grecian Formula, do not have less little grey cells.  It does irritate us that we are looked upon as if we were a blot on society and that we are just looking for work that would take jobs out of the running for those younger and more able to give more years to the working force.

Oh, well, more on that later.  Just thought that I would introduce you to us and be on with the task of keeping you informed of our progress.
